The Nancy Wilson Scanlan Gallery is a lovely space located in the Helm Fine Arts Center on the St. Stephen's Episcopal School campus. During the fall months the gallery features two or three exhibitions of professional artists' work. In January the regional Scholastic Art Awards (www.artandwriting.org) Exhibition is held in the Scanlan Gallery. During the spring months, student exhibitions fill the gallery with the work of young emerging artists from St. Stephen's. The gallery is closed during the summer months.
As Gallery Director for this space I manage each of the competitions and exhibitions.
For more than a dozen years the Scanlan Gallery has hosted the regional Art competition for The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This competition is the nations largest, longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in grades 7 through 12. Each January, ambitious students in Travis, Williamson and Hayes Counties (Central Texas) submit works of art to be evaluated by creative professionals, educators, and scholars.
As director of this Regional Affiliate, I manage and organize this art competition every year.
